Amazing Bejeweled Car

From CNN-GO:

"An unaffordable version of the world's cheapest car"

Tata Goldplus Nano: 22 karat gold and a $4.68 million price tag

The world's first gold jewelery car is made from 80 kilos of 22-karat gold, 15 kilos of silver and numerous gemstones.

Tata Motors and Titan Industries unveiled the Goldplus Nano in Mumbai on Monday.

It's a one-off version of India's people's car encased in 80 kilos of 22-karat gold, 15 kilos of sliver and 10,000 semi-precious and precious stones: rubies, pearls ... you get the picture.

“Around 500 years from now it would be quite a family heirloom, wouldn’t it?” said C.V. Venkataraman, the chief operating officer of the jewelry division of Titan Industries.

A regular Nano costs about US$3,000, or just under Rs 150,000. This baby, at $1,819 per troy ounce, more like US$4.68m, making it one of the most expensive cars ever displayed.

Others were less impressed.

"As flashes popped, the car appeared, looking like nothing so much as a golden version of the faux-silver horse-drawn carriages that trawl Mumbai’s famous Marine Drive, gold hubcaps and all," blogged Neil Munshi of the Financial Times.

The bejeweled car will be on the road (well, not literally) for the next six months as the company displays it in the towns where it operates.

"At the media event today, there was little mention of August sales figures -- at 1,202 units, down 88 percent from April’s 10,012 units, and dipping dangerously close to November 2010’s all-time low of 509. For a car that launched with a 100,000-customer waiting list in 2008, these are dire times indeed," Munshi wrote.

CARE OF PEARLS

Pearls are an organic gem and they require a very specialized care that if done properly will protect them for a very long time. They can be harmed by contact with many chemicals found in household cleaners, perfumes, cosmetics and hair care products of all kinds.
  • Never use toothbrushes, scouring pads or any type of abrasive material to clean your Pearls.
  • Never expose your Pearls to dish or laundry detergents, bleaches, powdered cleansers, baking soda or any ammonia based cleaner like Windex.
  • Never use any type of ultrasonic cleaner.
  • Never steam clean your Pearls.
  • Never use tarnish remover or any type of jewelry cleaner advertised on TV as a miracle cleaner.
  • Never store your pearls in any type of plastic bag. Plastic can emit a chemical that will cause the surface of the Pearl to deteriorate.
  • Never leave your pearls around a direct source of heat such as a fireplace mantle, on top of a television set, or stove.
  • Never store your Pearls in a very dry room or in a safe deposit box for a long time. Your Pearls need a little moisture like your skin so that they will not dry out.

Always remember that your Pearls should be the LAST THING YOU PUT ON when dressing and the FIRST THING YOU TAKE OFF when get home.
  • Always use only jewelry cleaners that are labeled as safe for Pearls.
  • Always store your Pearls wrapped in a soft cloth or pouch and protected from all abrasive objects.
  • Always wipe your Pearls with a soft cloth moistened with water.
  • Always remove your Pearls if you reapply hair spray, or put on perfume with a sprayer, both can damage Pearls.
  • Always be aware of the type of fabrics you wear fabrics like Shetland wool can damage Pearls
  • Always remember that you are wearing a gift from the sea and the better you take care of them the longer they will maintain their warm glowing luster.
